Body Symmetry in Animals.

symmetry in a triangle

Q: Do the body organs arranged mathematically or geometrically in animals?

Symmetry: Arrangement of paired organs as mirror images!

# Most of the organs in the body are paired and arranged symmetrically. So, the coordination of paired organs are perfectly integrated and functions together.

Example: Your two eyes, two legs, two hands and two ears located at the same distance from the central axis, coordinated well and perform on function perfectly.

Types of Symmetry found in animals:

  • Asymmetry- Protozoa and Porifera
  • Radial and Bi-radial symmetry- Coelenterata (Cnidaria)
  • Bilateral symmetry- Platyhelminthes, Namathelminthes, Annelida, arthropods, Mollusca, Larvae of Echinonoderms, Hemichordata, and Chordata.
  • Penta Radial Symmetry- Adults of Echinoderms.

Q: Do you find 100% symmetry in animals?

Ans: Not possible! Because, for example, the liver, heart and stomach etc. are single and do not follow bilateral symmetry. Hence, the symmetry of the early embryo is taken into consideration which can show 100% symmetry.

Ex: Embryo with 3 germ layers.
